Day 42 – Watchmen Appointed: Custodians of Glory
Appointing Faithful Men Over Your Gates
On Day 42 of our 52-day journey, the Lord moves us from building and setting gates into stewardship and custodianship.
Nehemiah 7:2-3 records a critical moment after the wall was completed:
Nehemiah gave the charge of Jerusalem to Hanani and Hananiah “for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.”
He then instructed them:
“Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot… shut and bar the doors… appoint guards… one at his watch station and another in front of his own house.”
Key lessons:
- Faithfulness and the fear of God outweigh skill alone.
A skilled person without integrity is a security risk. - Timing and discernment matter.
Gates are not opened under the cover of darkness. Watchmen must see clearly. - Layers of security are required.
Multiple watch stations ensure nothing slips through. - God appoints different kinds of watchmen:
- Angelic watchmen (Psalm 91; Hebrews 1:14)
- Faithful human watchmen (family, mentors, pastors)
- The Holy Spirit as the Ultimate Watchman (John 14:26)
We are glory-carriers. Therefore God is raising faithful custodians over the glory He has placed upon our lives, families, children and destinies.
Today we ask the Lord to:
- Appoint faithful watchmen over every gate
- Make us faithful stewards ourselves
- Protect our children from every form of deception and loss
- Keep us under the covering of the Chief Watchman
The wall is built. The gates are set. Now faithful watchmen are being appointed.
See you on Day 43.
